However, where does this Mother's Day come from? At all times, in all civilizations, the most important figure was in the first place the mother. Primitive civilizations celebrated the earth and the mother; the ancient Greeks celebrated Rhea, the mother of all the gods. In the sixteenth century, the English celebrated Mother's Day. Little by little, this feast became a celebration of the Church. 

Mother's Day Sunday was often an opportunity to take a day off, while many Englishmen took the opportunity to visit their mother and bring her some cakes. It was Napoleon who first evoked the idea of ​​a feast of official mothers. However, it was in Boston in 1870 that Julia Ward Howe launched the first Mother's Day in Boston, and the idea spread to other cities starting in 1907. Anna Jarvis and other women advocated for the creation of a national Mother's Day. Thus, in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson formally proclaimed the 2nd Sunday of May as the official Mother's Day. 

Mother's Day then became an international celebration, celebrated on the second Sunday of May in Canada, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Russia and everywhere else. In England, Mothering Sunday is celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent. In France, Mother's Day is held on the 4th Sunday of May.
